Rules
ART. 1 – NON-COMPETITIVE CHALLENGE
Triplo Stelvio is a non-competitive challenge taking place at the Stelvio Pass, aiming to cycle the three slopes in a single day.
The ride is conducted autonomously, with a defined but unmarked route and roads open to traffic.
ART. 2 – ROUTE
Triplo Stelvio:
- Bormio – Stelvio Pass;
- Prato – Stelvio Pass;
- Santa Maria – Stelvio Pass.
Each participant can choose how many climbs to undertake according to their preparation. In any case, it will be possible to change your choice at any time, even during the challenge itself.
A GPS file containing the route track and indications for the stopping points in Prato and Santa Maria will be provided to all participants.
ART. 3 – MEDICAL CERTIFICATION
To participate in the event, a medical certificate must be provided.
For cyclists residing in Italy:
- for athletes registered with the FCI or other Sports Entities: a valid medical certificate for competitive cycling is required (certificates for other types of sports such as triathlon, duathlon, athletics, etc. will not be accepted) DOWNLOAD THE MODEL
- for individuals residing in Italy but not registered with the FCI or Sports Entities: a valid medical certificate to participate in sports activities of particular and high cardiovascular commitment (as per Ministerial Decree of 24.04.2013) DOWNLOAD THE MODEL
For foreign cyclists or those not residing in Italy:
- for individuals residing abroad: a certificate of eligibility to participate in competitive cycling events issued by a doctor in their country of residence – as per the downloadable model (or equivalent). DOWNLOAD THE MODEL
ART. 4 – TIMING, ASSISTANCE, AND FEED ZONE
MEETING POINT FOR Triplo Stelvio: 30 June 2026 at 2:45 am at Hotel Nevada, Via Battaglion Morbegno, 21, 23032 Bormio SO
Departure at 03:15 am from Hotel Nevada, Via Battaglion Morbegno, 21, 23032 Bormio SO
MAXIMUM TIME TO COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE: by 2:30 pm at the Stelvio Pass
Feed Station:
- FIRST Feed Station: from 5:00 am to 6:00 am (at Stelvio Pass)
- Use bag 1 to change clothes (dry and winter clothing is required) to descend towards Prato.
- SECOND Feed Station: from 6:30 am to 8:30 am (at Prato allo Stelvio)
- Leave your winter clothes, used for the descent, with our staff, which will be placed in your bag 3 and taken to Stelvio for your final descent towards Bormio.
- THIRD Feed Station: from 9:00 am to 10:30 am (at Stelvio Pass)
- Use bag 2 to change clothes (dry and winter clothing is required) to descend to Santa Maria.
- FOURTH Feed Station: from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm (at Santa Maria)
- Leave all your clothes with the staff, which will be returned to you at Hotel Nevada, Via Battaglion Morbegno, 21, 23032 Bormio SO from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
- FIFTH Feed Station: from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm (at Stelvio Pass)
- This is the finish line where you’ll find the finisher t-shirt, pizza & pasta party, and photographs.
- Use bag 3 to change clothes and descend independently towards Bormio (dry and winter clothing is required).
HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR BAGS (1, 2 & 3):
Keep in mind that you should have at least 2 additional winter clothes to change into: ONE when descending from Stelvio to Prato (bag 1) and another from Stelvio to Santa Maria (bag 2). For the third descent (bag 3), the staff will return the clothes used in the first descent towards Prato.
We recommend always having a change of underwear, jersey, and socks to face all descents.
ART. 5 – SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE WITH THE ROAD CODE
Triplo Stelvio is a non-competitive night challenge that takes place on roads open to traffic and on roads without artificial lighting. All participants must adhere to the traffic laws for cyclists.
Below are some of these rules:
- Wear a helmet;
- Be equipped with visual signaling devices;
- Outside built-up areas from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise and in tunnels, cyclists are required to wear a high-visibility reflective vest or shoulder straps;
- On drivable roads, form lines of no more than two people side by side.
NOTICE: The temperature can vary significantly and will depend on weather conditions. The temperature usually ranges from below zero to 20 degrees. In the event of snow, the event will be automatically canceled, and we will suggest an alternative route if possible.
Always carry with you: outdoor clothing, i.e., waterproof and windproof jackets, money, mobile phone, water, some food, and the emergency staff’s contact number. All participants must be equipped with a repair kit, front and rear lights, and spare tubes to facilitate the organization’s intervention. Any lack of a spare tube and the use of one from the organization incurs a cost of €5 to be paid directly to the mechanic.
ART. 6 – CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES
Recommended cycling clothing:
- 2 winter jackets;
- 2 leg warmers;
- 2 arm warmers;
- 2 winter headwear;
- 2 winter gloves;
- 2 winter / waterproof shoe covers;
- 2 neck warmers;
- 3 base layer shirts;
- 3 cycling jerseys;
- 3 pairs of socks;
- 3 shorts;
- 1 windproof and waterproof jacket always with you.
ART. 7 – REGISTRATION
The registration fee of €250 includes:
- 2 cars with mechanical assistance for 12 hours non-stop;
- 3 backpack delivery services, ensuring you always have dry clothes for the descents;
- 6 feeding zones with selected food and drinks;
- final lunch at the Cima allo Stelvio;
- Triplo Stelvio t-shirt;
- Triplo Stelvio jersey;
- 2 guides with the group for the first ascent;
- breakfast at the top of Stelvio at 5:15 am (Terrazza Perego open exclusively for participants);
- a heated room reserved only for the event at the Perego Terrace, where you can recover energy, change clothes, etc.
ART. 8 – DATE OF THE EVENT
The date of the Triplo Stelvio is scheduled for Tuesday 30 June 2024, but the Organization reserves the right to move the date to 31 June or 1 July depending on the weather forecast. It is strongly recommended to be in Bormio as early as 27 June at 6:00 pm for the briefing, where the date of the Challenge will be confirmed, and subsequent communication will be sent via email to all participants, as well as updates on social media (Facebook and Instagram).
Those unable to attend on those days do so aware of the risk of losing the event without the possibility of requesting a refund.
ART. 9 – SUBSTITUTION OR CANCELLATION
Cancellation by the participant: No refunds are provided for cancellations.
In case of a health emergency, registration will be postponed to a new date, which will be communicated at least 20 days in advance. All amounts paid will be transferred to the next edition.
The substitution of an athlete will only be accepted until 30 March 2026, with a contribution of €50.00 as an administrative fee.
The organization reserves the right to make changes to the regulations and the route at any time.
Note: in case of cancellation of the event for force majeure beyond the control of the organization, the organizing committee reserves the right to withhold the registration fees paid.
The organizing committee reserves the right to claim damages for inappropriate behavior, should it negatively impact the event’s image.
